Job Title:              Adult Services Librarian

Position:              Part-time 18 hours per week, Monday, Wednesday & Saturday 6 hours per day.

Purpose:              A part-time position requiring work with young adults and adults including programming, reference and reader’s advisory services, collection development 
                              and  maintenance, outreach to the community and proficiency with computers.  This is a service-oriented position in a small rural library.     

Core Functions:

  1. Manage collection development for the adult and young adult areas.
  2. Work public service desks.
  3. Create, present and evaluate programs for the public.
  4. Communicate program information to the public and staff through written brochures, web site, and other means.

Responsibilities:

  1. Providing library services to meet the educational, recreational and informational needs of the community, with particular emphasis on Adult and Young Adult Services.
  2. Assists with collection development, selection and weeding of materials in the adult, reference and young adult areas.
  3. Works the public service desk to provide reference, computer and reader’s advisory services to adults and young adults.
  4. Assists with library operations, including computer troubleshooting as needed.
  5. Assists and trains patrons in the use of public access catalog, Internet, and other library resources.
  6. Assists in the instruction and training in library methods and techniques of par professions employees in the library.
  7. Assists in the development, presentation and evaluation of library programs and classes.
  8. Creates flyers, brochures, and displays to promote and motivated increase use of library services, materials programs and activities.
  9. Attends workshops and educational meetings relating to Adult and Young Adult services.
  10. Able to work independently.
  11. Performs other work as assigned.

Training and Experience:

  1. Masters Degree in Library and Information Science.
  2. Experience in public library work preferred.
  3. Knowledge of adult and young adult library resources.
  4. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is desirable.
